Objective: I would like to capture Digital8 Cassette output from a Sony DCR-TRV480 via Thunderbolt connection.

Attempts: I am able to connect the DCR-TRV480 via USB 3.2 type A and select "Video Capture Device (V4L2)" - device is recognized as "USB 2.0 PC Camera"

Issue: However, when I connect via Thunderbolt cable and select "Video Capture Device (V4L2)" - The connected camera "Thunderbolt Connection" is not shown in the "device" drop down list

(Thunderboldt cable works fine and is recognized in other applications)

Please assist.

I do not think that firewire is a V4L2 capture source but I think Ubuntu has a package DV4L that will make it show up as a V4L2 linux source , although I have not yet tested it myself

It may work very differently when connected to thunderbolt.

Try doing your captures in Kino . Kino supports DV natively. I do not think that OBS supports firewire/DV aside from the use of DV4L mentioned earlier.
