Video capture device: Current vs Legacy... What's the difference

I noticed a lot of connection errors when I used The new Video Capture.

But looking at other, I noticed there was a legacy.

What's the difference between the 2.

I noticed a lot of buggy menu stuff when using the modern. Also It's hard for my SQ11 cameras to be seen in modern mode, but not legacy mode.

What's the difference and why do USB options gets limited with a modern camera setup?

If I understand what the differences are, maybe it will help me decide.

Also I'm having issues using Thunderbolt ports on a powered hub as USB C and need a conversion from A to C to use.

It might be related to legacy vs current.

Oh an update. It may be because my cameras are the oft misunderstood Frugal SQ11 cameras, which are so identical, that even their serial numbers are identical because if Mac OS relies on its cameras to be smart, and it doesn't have a backup numbering system, relying on a smarter camera makes a dumber operating system.

I wonder if that's a factor.
