VDO Ninja & OBS

Hello OBS Forum,

First of all, What an amazing piece of softrware OBS is!

The reason I’m writing is I’ve gone through and watched several videos and tried using OBS and VDO Ninja to stream a live music event I did last night. I believe I followed all the recommendations you provided to make it work. I logged onto the venue’s WiFi on both my MBP Laptop running OBS and my iPhone 12 running the cam feed via VDO Ninja. I’m sure I messed up somewhere or had much higher expectations… but I was wondering if you might have suggestions to improve the sound quality (sounds like it’s all under water) and video rate… the first 10 minutes or so are really really bad but gets better later on… buffering, frame drops, etc… Just wondering if I’m trying too much ~. Thanks, and keep up the great work you’re doing. You can see the stream I did here…

cheers….

Hi Rockwell,

Thanks for your post, and awesome to see you tried VDO.Ninja.
I have used the tool for quite some time now.

There are a few things you can do to make your stream the best it can be.
- Start with full battery on all devices
- Keep them charging whilst performing
- Use hardwired instead of wireless
- Prevent overheating (by removing cases, running apps in the background, bright screens etc)

There are a lot of different things you can tweak as shown on the docs page: https://docs.vdo.ninja/
I would advise to join the Discord server and show your current settings and setup in detail to get more tips: https://discord.gg/feenJm8HTa

Hope this helps!

I used VDO ninja for a production of a Christmas Carol last December and the result was amazing. I had an iPhone 6s as a congregation camera but the sound was been capture by dedicated wireless Lav mics. All sources come into OBS 27.2.4 with limiter/compression added. The latency was about 70ms, just sound like a slight echo was listening to the phones audio and was very smooth. Here is a short demo of switching from main cameras to the iPhone. I wasn't able to paint the camera as good I would've liked but still good.
