Are any of you on Windows 7, by chance? If so, and perhaps even if not, follow these instructions:

If you've installed the Visual C++ Components that OBS Studio requires, but still aren't able to install OBS Studio, you may need to update your Windows installation. To do this, follow these steps.
  1. Open Windows Update. This can be found by searching for Windows Update in the Start Menu, or in the Control Panel.
  2. Install any available updates.
  3. Restart your PC to finish installing updates.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 until there are absolutely 0 updates remaining.
Once Windows is fully up to date, try installing OBS again.

I am running Windows 10 and still have this problem. I have downloaded and installed the most recent versions of vcredist I can find for both x64 (2013) and x86 (2015), and both show up in my Apps Settings. The installer still says it can't find them. If the "Do you want to download these" link in the warning box works, it certainly doesn't download the versions it is looking for in the "Downloads" folder because after several tries I could not find the exe files there. I also looked on Microsoft Downloads for newer versions and could not find any, although that part of the Microsoft site is very user challenging, so there might be newer versions I can't find.

The number of recent posts with this same problem suggest this may be an installer issue since this appears to be a relatively recent install version. For those like me who are trying to install this application for the first time this is quickly becoming an incentive to go back to my search for the number two recommended application. I guess I should have expected this as one glowing review said it was a pain to get installed, but once working was stellar in terms of what allows you to do.

Looking at these posts, all three with the problem are: (1) new members, which likely means installing the app for the first time, and (2) within the past week. I wonder how many additional potential new users did not bother to register for the forum to reply and just gave up.

The thing is that this is no OBS issue. It is in fact a Windows issue. An issue with not keeping your Windows system up and healthy and patched and untampered with. Since this forum is about OBS and not about fixing Windows issues, the answers to this problem are somewhat terse and simply tell in essence: "make sure your Windows is healthy".

I can only tell that OBS works for me, as long as I find "Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributable (x64) - 14.12.25810" in Windows Programs and Features. The (x86) version is required as well. This revision (14.12.25810) works for me.
A picture may illustrate how to find out if you have or have not installed this or some other version or none at all:

If you're still having problems with this, can you try running this tool and providing a screenshot? Thanks.

Have you tried installing the runtimes manually from here outside of the installer?

I verified OBS installation on a Windows 10 vm that was installed some time ago but never actually used, but kept updated via Windows Update with the current patch level.

- I start OBS 21.1.3 install
- installation program prompts to install vcredist packages and opens browser to OBS website for download
- I downloaded both packages from exactly that website
- I installed both downloaded packages
- I started OBS install again (was closed)
- Installation runs fine
- OBS starts fine

It worked for me, and there wasn't anything special to do.

Yes, we're aware that it works fine for most users. For some users, it does not work, and we've been investigating possible causes for this. @R1CH thinks he has identified the issue, and has prepared a solution. The tool I linked earlier was made by him for this exact purpose so that users who are having trouble could run it and provide us with diagnostic info.
