Question / Help VCE Local Record - High Encode Error

I am using OBS Studio 0.13.1 (Windows 7) with VCE recording, and no matter what I do, the moment I hit the record button it immediately gives me the High Encoder setting warning. But that is unhelpful b/c as far as I understand that error message applies to CPU encoding.

I've clean my AMD drivers with DDU, and reinstalled the latest 16.2 drivers, re-seated my GPU. I tried 0.13.2 but that was when this all started so I downgraded to 0.13.1.

The worst part is everything was working perfectly, went on a trip, came back, saw the OBS update, updated, and the issue started. Now nothing seems to fix it. Using local CPU encoding doesn't seem to have the same issue.

Unfortunately searching for OBS and VCE mostly returns the thread of the forked the OG OBS to support VCE.

I also have the issue that a few others have where OBS Studio crashes when I stop the recording after getting the error.

Oh thank goodness, I think I figured it out! The patient finally pulled through! So for anybody else that has issues with VCE or NVENC recording in OBS Studio:

1. Backup your profile and scenes
2. Uninstall OBS Studio
3. Restart your computer
4. Go to where OBS Studio is installed (yes there is still stuff there)
5. Delete the OBS Studio directory
6. Reinstall
7. Test to make sure the issue is gone
8. Put your profile and scenes back

This was such a pain in the ass to figure out. Still not sure what originally caused the issue, but it happened after upgrading to the newest 0.13.2.
