Question / Help Using Canon XC15 for live streaming

I am trying to use my Canon XC15 via to my MacBook Air (High Sierra v10.13.6) to livestream on Facebook/YouTube, but I can't get my Mac to detect it. Is there a way to do this that doesn't involve purchasing external hardware like BlackMagic/Magewell? I downloaded CamTwist and Camera Live to use in combo (based on a YouTube vid I watched), but it's not working. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if my camera isn't supported by that software. Full disclosure: I'm kind of learning all this on the fly so I'm not especially knowledgeable on a lot of the technical aspects of all this. Thanks.

If Canon's documentation doesn't say that you can, and instructs you how, on how to use video from this camera to your computer via USB, then yes, you need a capture device to connect it to the camera's HDMI output.
