Question / Help Using a base resolution which is not available

I have an important question.
The last months I recorded everything in 2048x1152 in order to get a higher bitrate at youtube (because this resolution will be shown als 1080p but will gain the bitrate of 1140p).
My old 1080p-Monitor was able to handle 2048x1152 so I downscaled it.

I just got two new U2414H which seems to have problems with 2048x1152, which is very sad.

But I just tried to record with my previous OBS-Settings an it seems to work.
Desktop and game is in 1920x1080 but the Basic and Scaled resolution in OBS is still 2048x1152. According to VLC the recorded MP4 has the same size.

Obviously it seems to work, but in order to be sure I would like to ask here again. You know the code better and you are the pro. Otherwise I would think about sending this wonderful monitor back, because I don't want to loose this "feature" of youtube.

So, just to be clear, you want to know if this "hack" is ok? That is, do the devs not see a problem with sending up a higher resolution than the game is running in.

Because a lot of people will run their game in a "not fullsize" window and show their cam next to it...

I would like to know whether this might work or if VLC ist just kidding me ;-)
Everything seems fine, but I'm just completely surprised.

As long as I know OBS just kann decrease the resolution instead of increasing which would probably happen in this case. Which is nothing really special. So the Developers might now. Maybe it's a unkown/unwanted feature, but it's very useful for me as long as I have not the right timings in order to use 2048x1152 with the new monitors.

I don't understand what you would like to say with the last sentence. It's not a question of getting space for a cam. It's just a matter of the bitrate YT will give you. 2048 will get 8-10 M/Bit and 1920 just 5 ;-) And the resolution is slightly higher, but still much less then 1440p. Win-Win-Situation ;-)

This is what I already had done, Osiris. I just asked in order to be sure that this is intended by the software and no "bug" or "unwanted feature". WIth the old OBS this was not possible.

Thank's a lot for the wonderful multiplatform version.
