Use one computer for rendering & then one for virtual cam?

Hey All,

I’ve been scratching my head for a while on this so any help would be appreciated.

Since COVID I’m taking all my calls through MS Teams, this range from team meetings to giving presentation to small & large audience & day to day activities. I recently decided to upgrade my improvised home office with proper lighting, replaced my built-in webcam for Sony ZV-1 + Elgato Cam Link 4K and installed OBS.

Now I’m very limited in what I can do, I work for a large company and I don’t have admin rights on my machine, getting any software installed is a hassle and has to be requested to the central IT (...), still I manage to get OBS installed however my work computer is nowhere near powerful enough to handle the quality I was looking for [4k, overlays, PiP, green screen]. I have read tmost of he guides and the tutorials to optimize performance, sadely It can manage barely 1080p 24fps and I mean barely, all of this is using the virtual cam feeding MS teams.

I was wondering if there was a way to do all of the rendering on a different computer [I have a beefy MacBook Pro] and feed that to OBS so my weak work computer would just do the displaying, I’m trying to see how it could work maybe Sony to the MacBook, rendering and effects, Elgato CamLink 4K to the PC as a video input for MS Teams? Any other ideas.

I can only imagine this would create massive lag and A/V out of sync but I dunno... open to any opinion, ideas, solutions

Thx a lot.
Cheers
