Use Canon VIXIA HFM31 as webcam

OBS does not see the Canon VIXIA HFM31 videocam. The camera is attached with an HDMI video capture card. Computer is an ASUS laptop with an Intel i7 and 12 GB RAM.

First time using forum. Why and how can a log file be included with post?

Looks like Streamlabs OBS is primarily for Twitch. My goal is to use OBS with Zoom. Any thoughts on using this version of OBS with Canon VIXIA HFM31 camcorder as a webcam?

The camera itself will not show up directly, the HDMI capture device should.
Which capture device did you buy? Does it have its own software, and if so does the camera's output show up in that?
Does the capture device show up in the OBS list of cameras at all (eg: just show a gray/black screen when selected, or not in the list at all)?

I have a BlueAVS Video Capture Card HDMI to USB 1080P 30FPS USB2.0
capture card from Amazon, $18, no software. Had an Elgato - Cam Link 4K but couldn't get that to work either. Can buy it again if necessary. $100 or so is the upper liit for a video capture card. Pardon the text,

It sounds like that SHOULD be a UVC-compliant capture card.
Could you open your Video Capture Device source properties in OBS, and click the device selection dropdown? It should look something like this (but have different devices listed):
