Question / Help Upgrade for dual PC Setup (i7 7700k vs. i5 4590 vs. AMD Ryzen 1/2)

Hey guys,
I'm sorry for the complicated title and I'm not sure where to put this topic, but I'm currently using a Dual PC streaming setup with an Intel i7 7700k (+ 1070 GTX) on the gaming rig and an Intel i5 4590 on the streaming rig.

This setup is "ok" so far, but I don't need to say that the encoding power of the i5 is somewhat limited. I can't get better than "very fast" on this machine, if I want to maintain a solid FPS output.

With the arrival of the new AMD Ryzen 2xxx generation, an upgrade for one of the machines could be the key to a much better image quality and maybe even a 1080p/60fps output. (More cores = Better x264 encoding options?).

I think there are three options:

1. i7700k (which still performs well ingame) as gaming rig / AMD Ryzen 1700+ as streaming rig (around 350 €)
2. AMD Ryzen 2700x as gaming rig / i7700 as streaming rig (around 500 €)
3. i7700k as gaming rig and AMD Ryzen 2700x as streaming rig (also 500 €)

The prices for the Ryzen 2700x are very good and it shouldn't fail because of a 50 € price difference, but to get this CPU to full power I would also need a pricey new mainboard (New x470). And going down this road seems very strange for a "streaming" rig with a shitty GPU.

In a perfect world, I would like to have only ONE PC for gaming and streaming and I'm not sure if the new Ryzen can handle gaming, encoding and streaming in a way that satifies my needs for high quality. For my main system I was actually waiting for the i7 9700 coming this winter.

So I think Nr. 1 is the best trade-off between price and performance?
What's your opinion?

i7 7700k system > any Ryzen/Threadripper System in gaming as long as you are gaming in 1080p

I would recommend using the Ryzen as encoding System and the Intel System for gaming only.

Ryzen 7 2700 + x370 Board is enough for the scenario you are using the system in allthough there will probably be cheap x470 boards again. I hope you got DDR4 RAM lying around because 350€ with ~240€ for CPU and ~80€ for Mainboard not to mention SSD or HDD and PSU will already add up to 320€

Thank you for your quick response!
The 1700x will probably be 50-70 € cheaper than the 2700x when it launches. But coming from a i5 4590 - is the difference THAT big for the encoding job?

Yes there is a huge difference between encoding with an i5 4590 and a ryzen 7 CPU in terms of gaming performance the i5 and Ryzen 7 @4,8GHz would be pretty much the same in 1080p.

According to what users with Ryzen systems say they usually get away with 1080p60 on mostly faster to fast preset which is unthinkable of on an i5 and some of them even use their ryzen system for gaming and streaming on a single rig.
