Updated to v30.0.0 this morning, but virtual camera hasn't installed

Problem
I am not able to use the Virtual Camera in OBS since updating to v30.0.0 this morning.

Observations
The main program seems to be installed fine, however, during the installation process a pop-up appeared which got accidentally got closed. It was the sort of pop-up you get when you need to grant permissions in Mac's Security and Privacy settings. I didn't catch exactly what it was for before it closed. But since then, the virtual camera hasn't worked.

Symptoms
When I click the 'Start Virtual Camera' button in the main OBS window, I get the following pop-up error message (with a yellow triangular exclamation mark icon):

"An error has occured while installing the virtual camera: [New line] The operation couldn't be completed. (OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain error 10.)"

There's just an 'OK' button on the pop-up, which returns me to the main OBS window.

What have I tried?
I've tried a few things, without success:
  1. Downloaded the v30.0.0 dmg and overwriting the existing installation.
  2. Uninstalled the existing installation, restarting my Mac, then installing from the latest dmg.
  3. Upgraded my Mac to the latest OS (from v13 to v14). Before doing that I uninstalled OBS. Then updated Mac OS. Then installed v30.0.0 from the dmg.
I note that all my settings were kept during all of the above stages. I find that odd, although perhaps that's irrelevant here. I only mention it because I'm not sure if everything is getting removed when I uninstall OBS (by moving the app to the Bin).

In short, I've reached a dead-end where I've run out of ideas on how to solve this problem. I've tried looking for how to install/uninstall just the virtual camera on its own, but haven't found anything as yet.

Happy to provide more info if needed. Any help would very much be appreciated as I'm a trainer, and rely on OBS for my work.

Thanks for replying.

Just tried reverting to RC2 - no joy.

Then tried v29.1.3 (the version I was on until this morning) - no errors when starting the virtual camera, but niether Zoom and Google Meet could see the virtual camera.

Tried going back up to v30.0.0 - after installing the main program and relaunching, I clicked on 'Start Virtual Camera', was then asked for my Mac password, before receiving the error in my original post :(

UPDATE

Giggles of Doom gave me an idea to revert back to v29.1.3, and then follow the instructions linked below to restore legacy video device support (because I'm on Mac OS v14.1.1:

After restarting my Mac (M1 MBP), OBS hung on first loading. So one Force Quit later, and OBS started up fine, and allowed me to start my virtual camera successfully :-D

Hopefully this will help anyone else unfortunate enough to experience the same issues I've had.

I'm still keen to move up to v30.0.0 as it contains some very useful new features. At the same timeI kind of don't want to upgrade in case things break again, so I'd still be interested in a cure to my original problem if anyone can help.

This is what has been working for me:
Rename /Applications/OBS.app to something like /Applications/OBStrash.app
then you will be able to delete it. When you do delete it, it will say something like OBS hosts system extensions which will need to be removed - and asks for your permission - which you should grant.
Then, when you reinstall, you will be asked to grant Permissions to OBS once again and it will then prompt for password to add the virtual camera...

Also, if you are using zoom make sure you quit during this whole process. When you relaunch Zoom after the new installation of OBS, make sure to reselect your OBS virtual camera from the list in Zoom as Zoom may still be pointing to the old one...

@Icalder I also seem to be suffering from this same problem on 30.0.0 and trying to rename and delete and reinstall does not work.

I'm noticing that systemextensionsctl list does not show the OBS camera extension as I'm inclined to understand that it should.

However, when following the instructions from @County0703 I was able to get it to work on 29.1.3 just fine in Sonoma 14.1.2.

Last one from me on this thread, as my original issue is now solved.

I found this post on Apple's forums, and it helped me resolve the issue:

https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/672286

This is the key line though: "In case someone is curious, there was an MDM profile in place for a different system extension that disallowed user approvals.".

My Mac is a works machine, so I sent the link to the Tech team, and they confirmed there was an OBS extension that needed their admin permission (my own user wasn't sufficient). Once they allowed it, all was well.

I hope that helps anyone else facing this same problem. Thanks to everyone who replied to this post.

i am experiencing the same problem with OBS, and coincidentally the same exact error with Wirecast Virtual Camera. Was anyone able to identify what MDM profile setting or extension is causing the block or possibly generating the error "OSSystemExtensionErrorDomain error 10"?
