Unwanted audio

Do you have something here?:

Those don't shut off. In fact I like them for precisely that reason, so I can control audio separately from video.

The only way to stpo the unwanted audio is to quit OBS. When OBS starts, the unwanted audio is present.

What *is* the unwanted audio? Is it something intelligible like I assumed from your description? Or is it a feedback screech?

You should not use Stereo Mix as a mic input, OBS already captures your audio output with the "Desktop Audio" source.

You are right. The audio is intelligible. The unwanted audio is a stream of talk followed by music. There is no distortion. It is not a feedback screech. It occurs even with all the Global Audio Devices disabled. I am mystified.

Thank you. I followed your suggestion. Should I set File-Settings-Audio-GlobalAudioDevices-DesktopAudio to Default or retain the Speakers/Headphones (Realtek(R) Audio) choice?

When the router is connected, Audacity records the unwanted audio for over 30 minutes (at which point I stopped recording it). In Audacity, when the router is disconnected, the stream of unwanted audio, after about 3 minutes, stops. When the router is connected, exiting OBS stops the stream immediately.

Starting OBS initiates the stream immediately. This behavior has prevented me from using your excellent program. I have no explanation for why this has been happening, so I have turned to this Forum for an explanation.

Since there are no other posts about this situation, maybe it is rare. Since you should not have to wrack your brains unnecessarily, you should know that currently OBS is working without incident, including without any Unwanted Audio. I have no idea why.

Default allows the operating system to choose what device it is, according to whatever logic or auto-switching the OS might have. In terms of a stream going smoothly, it's practically unpredictable what it's going to connect to when, but the most guaranteed to get *something* fresh out of the box. Always set it to either a specific device, or Disabled.

I now have the same problem as you Bruce. Turning OBS on starts the music & ads, and only turning it off ends it. I tried disabling desktop audio, and no effect. It's scene independent. It almost seems like something is just kicking on audio as OBS starts. I made no changes to OBS after last using it, simply the problem started with the next use. One person guessed it might be an open source plugin on the desktop audio, doing "move audio". It's a free Exceldro plugin with no paid version to my knowledge

Unrelated person, potentially unrelated problem. Read the entire thread and respond to all of it with *your* details. Take your own screenshots of those settings and post here, for a start.

Edit: I see you also have a thread over here:
which is where you got the guess that you mentioned. Keep the threads uncluttered. If you don't get an answer there, it's not because people aren't looking. It's because no one actually knows. That, in turn, could be because you're not providing enough or the right information.

AaronD, I only posted because his problem and mine were very similar. You're quite wrong when you implied that I am trying to get an answer here, not having gotten one there. I tried to get and share insights, yes, but I did not want to divert this thread over to my problem.

However, perhaps my posting here will help Bruce. I solved my problem. It was a recently made browser source for which I 1) did not check the option "shutdown source when not visible" , and 2) did not check the option "control audio by OBS". Bruce, if you made a browser source that you leave running even when not visible (not checking "shutdown source when not visible"), then it turns on when OBS starts, not when you first show the source. It's audio turns on at start also. That is addressable by checking "control audio by OBS" and muting the audio control. Bruce, if this was your problem, then please let us know and I'll enjoy the irony.

Ah! Okay. Sorry.

Once you've been here long enough to see what commonly happens under a "New Member" flag, you might understand why I did that. :-)
