Question / Help Unspecified error

Change your encoder to something else, save, and then set it back to what you had previously in Settings -> Output.

Just hitting apply should have been fine. What is the encoder set to right now?

There is something really, really weird going on here. Nothing is being logged in terms of failure... it just says "stopping"

Can you reinstall OBS? Just run the installer again and install over the existing, it shouldn't affect your settings.

Ok, on further inspection here, it looks like you're trying to record 1440p 30fps losslessly. Are you sure that's what you want?

Try changing the preset to indistinguishable. You might be underestimating just how nutso lossless will be at that resolution.

No I need the lossles, HD space is no problem this is for work. I'm trying to replace FRAPS but so far OBS hasn't been super reliable. I will try to reinstall, I really want this to work :/ Can I do something else to help diagnose?

I would really, really recommend you try indistinguishable to test. The reason it's called "indistinguishable" is because you can't tell the difference between that and lossless.

Something is failing within ffmpeg or utvideo (which is what OBS uses for lossless), so I would appreciate if you can test x264 indistinguishable to see if that's the issue or not.

Thanks for your fast reply btw!

I will try indistinguishable, but since I'm trying to replace FRAPS, and the lossless of OBS is already less sharp, I would really like to make it work reliably. We do a lot of re-encoding and post-production so the source files need to be as clean as possible.

I will test today and report back.

After testing, indistinguishable preset seems stable after 50 quick clips. However, after comparison even if it is next to impossible to see with the naked eye, once you zoom in the grain makes it harder to do rotoscoping so that a no no.

Is it a hardware limitation?

Thank you for testing, that at least confirms what I suspected that something about the lossless encoder is silently failing. It shouldn't be a hardware limitation, but I'm honestly a little blind in this scenario as the logs aren't logging anything useful.

I've pinged @Jim about this one, he should be able to take a look and help to see if we can figure out why the lossless encoder would be failing.
