Question / Help Unable to Record Oculus Footage

Hi,

I'm trying to record Oculus rift footage (DCS World, Project Solus) and OBS studio won't record it (Start record does nothing). It will record any other footage perfectly but the moment I try to use either game, display or window capture with the rift it won't work.

Other recording programs such as dxtory pick it up right away and records fine.

Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Just signed up to report the same problem. Looking through the logs, it appears to be a problem hooking into the NVENC decoder. The only change since it worked last was an update to the Oculus software - my graphics drivers were updated on the 9th and I successfully recorded Rift footage on the 12th.

Two log files below - first is a logfile created on the 16th of September, after it stopped working. The second file is from a successful recording on the 12th of September.

Hope this all helps.

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this issue. Driving me nuts trying to fix it!

I tested just using shadowplay last night to record oculus footage and that worked fine as well. So it's definitely not a driver/encoder issue?

I am also having this issue. Looks like it might be some sort of Oculus software issue. A bunch of updates came out recently and I was definitely able to record using Nvenc up until just recently. I guess I can do x264 for now but I'd really like to be able to use nvenc again since I had no perfomance drops when using it. I also am able to record with shadowplay no problem. I've run DDU in safe mode and reinstalled. I was thinking maybe there was some sort of conflict with shadowplay but this only happens when I'm trying to record on the rift. I would just switch to Shadowplay but OBS has so many options and I have a custom transform to zoom in on the actual content of the mirror window.

Here is my log where I am able to record a blank scene with nvenc for a few seconds which works, then I open up iRacing on the rift and it gives me the nvenc error when I try to record.

Completely new here, but just had to sign up to say I've got the same damn problem.
It's being mentioned on the Oculus forum too, but no fix yet :(

Cool. At least they are aware of it!

Yeah that's something, hope they sort it soon.
Literally just tried recording a race using another encoder and frame rates were dropping as low 40, which as you can imagine meant it felt like someone slammed on the brakes.
90+ FPS normally using NVENC.

Yeah cpu encoding really hurts fps. I just set up the quick sync encoder and found it pretty damn good. was only hitting 5-8% cpu load and the quality seems just as good as NVENC. Give that a try chillisteak, it will tide us over till Oculus fix the issue :)
