Question / Help Unable to install

So to clarify the exact issue, what happens is if I try running the installer I'll be greeted with the setup menu from first launch, I hit next and the setup immediately freezes and crashes. Then, if I try relaunching it immediately, I get an error message as such:

Error opening file for writing
C:\Users\Malthoruk\AppData\Local\Temp\OBS\check_for_64bit_visual_studio_2013_runtimes.exe

From here I get the option of Abort, Retry, and Ignore. Retry simply refreshes the error screen and if I hit ignore setup freezes and crashes once again. I've tried running setup as admin and tried reinstalling visual studio I even checked the file path that is failing to open and everything exists but it's not opening and I am at a complete loss as to the issue. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

That was also something I took into consideration so I disabled my antivirus to test it and it still froze. I even installed the old OBS and it was installed just fine, no issues. Which is why I'm at a loss as to why this one is freezing when it shouldn't.

Check compatibility mode of the .exe to make sure it isn't being run in XP or Vista or something. You can always install an older version then check for updates, or use the .zip version.

Well that got it working finally. I ended up having to download the .zip version and it finally started to work. What was strange was I tried downloading the .zip before but the download always failed for some reason and yet now it decided to work. I swear, I really hate computers sometimes. Thanks for the help!

If you ever had microsoft visual C++ redistributable installation problems includes installing apps like Haste and outfox and wtfast, including windows updates may or may not apply to windows 10 but definetely on windows 8.1, then you'll get this issue, if you didnt go through the hastle of updating windows to install those 3 apps or similar, then it shouldnt happen, that's just for information. but to install just end this task "check_for_64bit_visual_studio_2013_runtimes.exe" with task manager and OBS should install afterwards. after that you should see any exe with vcredist should fail to install during the OBS installation.

you should reinstall windows otherwise it will affect future installations not only with OBS.

Hey all I've solved this issue! It is caused by your antivirus and/or your bank protection software. Here I've Rapport Trusteer Endpoint protection to access a bank account on Santander and this software was causing this issue with check_for_64bit_visual_studio_2013_runtimes.exe

Fortunately Rapport Trusteer software have a way to disable it at runtime, just press windows button and search for rapp and the option to turn off protection will appear, click on that and follow the instructions on the screen.
