Question / Help Unable to add video file

New to OBS, so am in process of learning the software.

I am able to properly stream with a basic game/webcam set up without any major issues.

I am now trying to add more "extra" stuff to stream including overlays, images, etc...

I am trying to add a short video clip to one of my scenes. The clip is an MP4 file that plays fine on my computer. VLC is up to date as well.

When I try to add the clip, I am able to find the local file and add it, but I cannot see or play the clip in the scene. I do see a single "dot" which appears to be part of the sizing handle for the window containing the video file, but cannot grab or resize it.

I see from the log file that there are a number of things that aren't loading. Not sure if these are relevant to the issue or not. If they are, how do I correct the problem?

Any assistance in fixing this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Right click the source, choose Transform, Fit to Screen

Sometimes OBS doesn't know how to size a piece of content, a sure sign of this is if you see a 1 pixel size red sizing box at the top left of the canvas. If you don't want the video to be full screen for some reason you can use Transform, Edit Transform and set the top left position and the size there.

Hope that helps

What properties do you have set on the video source? These are mine:

In Normal (just one preview window) mode the video will start when I make it visible in the scene
In Studio (one preview, one live window) mode the video will start when I make the source visible in the scene and then transition

I have the same settings. Its only video files (other mp4 files also do not work) that seem to be an issue. Image files in the same folder work fine.

I will try to save a clip in a different format and see if that helps.

Solved the issue (at least temporarily)
Created a whole new set of scenes and was then able to utilize the video file. Seems to have stuck through opening and closing OBS.
Hopefully it remains functional long term as it necessitates that I reconstruct all of the scenes I previously made in the new set.

Still unclear as to why the issue is present though. Any ideas as to why it occurred? How do I avoid the same problem in the future?
