I just upgraded my Ubuntu 16.04 machine to Ubuntu 18.04. OBS simultaneously was upgraded to 24.0.3. Recording today with OBS, the first time my webcam mic was used as selected in OBS. Second recording I did - didn't switch my machine off or suspend - although OBS scene settings still had the input audio set to my webcam mic, it definitely was recording from my laptop's built-in mic, which sounds rotten.
I figure this problem's more like Ubuntu 18.04 than OBS studio but so far am at a loss as to the workaround. Both the Ubuntu Sound Input and OBS audio in were set to the webcam mic but it wasn't being used ):
