Question / Help Two Potential Issues; Win-7 x64

Hi. I just recently installed a new drive, new format on the drive and fresh OS install of 7 64 bit. Not sure if that is at all relevant, but I had OBS, an earlier version before installed. The one where you could preview your cap or stream before actually committing to attempt to record game-play. Only on a few games did I encounter issues with it capturing properly, primarily Grid, and NFS Shift 2: Unleashed.

I could record fine for War Thunder and for Arma 2/3. Also, it had no problem detecting my GPU. The GPU is a EVGA Nvidia GTX 570.

The issues are this: Will not detect GPU at all. The GPU selection box is grayed out and no GPU is displayed. All drivers are up to date, I double checked that and tried again with a fresh update of the newest driver. The video portion of recording never occurs. Black screen.

It will not record anything but audio, on either Direct3D 11 or Open GL settings, with or without game hooking with MP4 as the codec. Something isn't right. Any insight into this issue, or perhaps it's something you're aware of and working on, I don't know, but that's my problem specifically. The other threads didn't seem to be quite the same, so decided to put my own here. Thanks. Oh, and what happened to preview option? That was immensely handy for trouble-shooting or ensuring everything worked right.

Will not detect GPU at all.
If you check your OBS logs, you will see this isn't actually the case.

It will not record anything but audio, on either Direct3D 11 or Open GL settings, with or without game hooking with MP4 as the codec
1> MP4 isn't a codec, it's a container
2> Blame windows media player
3> Use VLC.

Preview is on by default in multiplatform.

1. How about an answer that actually helps. 2. Codec, container, no matter. Recording format. 3. I don't use winblows media player. I use Winamp. 4. Why should I have to download another media player when the media players I have are perfectly cable of parsing the format? 5. There is no preview. It's a black screen. So if preview is working, it's showing me a black screen. None of your answers help. Can someone who's part of the official build answer me? I'm looking for fixes, not snark. Thanks.

Snark comes when you don't provide all the required information for troubleshooting

Winamp relies on the same codecs and such as windows media player. Use VLC.

Black screen in the main window means you're not getting active capture, HOWEVER, if you're dealing with a game in fullscreen (not borderless window) it will always be black when you tab out to check on the preview.

And post your obs log.

It's obvious you're not a professional or you'd realize that when you're speaking with people that use your product, or you'd like to use your product, you don't use snark. You use helpful information that ensures you get the information you need so they can provide it. It's called helping others help you to help them. Perhaps you've heard of it. Obviously not. But that said, this post was a little more helpful. Try doing that the first time, next time.

Edit: And preview is still not hooking even with a full window rather than full screen.

Which method are you using in your game capture to attempt to capture your game?

Have you tried unchecking the "Capture any fullscreen application" and choosing your game?

That I have not yet tried, I remember running across it and then I forgot about it, let me try that real quick.

Edit: Okay, I've tried it in window title, window class and executable name with the box unticked for capture any fullscreen application. Nothing seems to let me see a preview of it. It's running in full windowed mode right now. And I just did a change of it to be a windowed (rather than full borderless window) and it's still showing black screen.

Solved: You have to use Window capture.

The GPU dropdown is not functioning right now, so you can ignore the fact that it is grayed out and empty.

FYI, it's not his product, he is using his free time to help people, including you.
