Question / Help Two Blackmagic Mini Recorder Units

Hi!

I need to capture from two recorders simultaneously, but when I plug both my Blackmagics in my Macbook Pro, it seems OBS gets confused. I cannot select the 2nd unit and configure it separately, I guess thats because they appear under the same name? One single source works fine though.

Is there a workaround?

Best regards,
Michael

I've checked the sources a bit and found that the json config entry for a device has a device name and a hash, but for the Blackmagic, the hash is the same as the name. I suspect this is the reason why OBS can't tell the two units apart.

Is there a Thunderbolt device ID we could put into the hash or something?

I'm so glad I found this thread, I thought I was going potty!! I've just spent all evening trying to get a second Mini Recorder to work.

Any chance anyone has a fix?

If they are the same model then you can only use ONE of them. If you use DIFFERENT models of BM capture cards then it should work. At least in my test using 1 Intensity Pro card and 1 Intensity Pro 4K card it worked.

So the problem must be what Michael Böckling said in his post.

does anyone have a solution for this? Does one essentially need two completely different external video cards to enable OBS to recognise them individually?

I don't think so. I've tried with two BlackMagic Ultrastudio Mini Recorders and it crashed OBS every time.

I mean, without using OBS. Just using MediaExpress, will it see two units at once and allow separate use?
