Hello all
First time posting and New streamer here.
I am trying to stream my VLC player (or other video playback) through OBS
I have followed the tutorial here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3UzVmWK_08
and I can get the source to show but the screen is black while the video is playing in the media player. I have tried with several diferent media players and alla re the same. I can see the cursor moving but no video shows.
I am using most recent OBS nvidia card and windows 10

Any ideas?
Thanks

This is probably caused by vlc and other media players using hardware acceleration. Or it is the result of some kind of DRM blocking the capture of protected material (this is only a guess, I have no real expertise in DRM interfering with capturing).

In general: to add media to OBS, it's better to use the "VLC Video Source" source and add the corresponding video directly. This way the video is directly rendered within OBS and doesn't have to be captured from an external application. The more simple "Media Source" source type can also be used to directly access video stuff, although it does not support all the advanced remote url-type videos the vlc video source supports.
Rule of thumb: if vlc is able to play it, "VLC Video source" is able to play it within OBS.

Thank You for your reply!
Sorry for the ignorance but where would I find the vlc video source? I'm not finding it in the source options in the editor...

The vlc video source should appear as regular source type as soon as VLC is installed. OBS uses VLC internally as soon as it detects it. You must use the same bitness - if you use the 64-bit version of OBS, you have to install the 64-bit version of VLC.

I am also having major issues, 1st downloaded OBS, it worked 1 time on GAB, then OBS stopped working, I have tried several things including deleting all logs, the best it will do is go live but not be live, i know this because no one can watch, the one time it went live it was lagging and no one can watch due to the lag. my internet is fast on youtube i have no issues using youtube video. but this OBS ive tried for over 1 1/2 months im running windows 8.1, this thing has not worked yet. i also downloaded another OBS and even VCL but nothing. May be i should try to just use VCL ? not sure how to fix this issue, also none of my vids stay on GAB yet everyone else who uses this OBS their videos stay. also cant upload any videos made on obs it says must be mp4. so i tried them all and still nothing.
