Question / Help Trying to stream to Twitch with Traktor S4 and M-Audio Interface, OBS is not picking up any audio from M-Track

Hi all, I am a noob when it comes to this stuff so apologies if I missed something obvious.

I've got a Traktor S4MK2 plugged via USB to my computer. I have an M-Track audio interface through which I plug in my speakers, and the M-Track plugs into my computer through USB. I am running Traktor Pro 3.2.6 and usually I just select "M-Track" in Traktor audio output, the sound outputs through the interface and my speakers, and I play fine at home.

I wanted to try streaming on Twitch during this lockdown period. In the OBS audio settings, I disabled all audio except for Aux Audio 1, where I have the "Input (2-M-Track)" option. I select it. On Advanced Audio properties, I unchecked everything except Track 1 for the M-Audio input channel (also enabled all 5 channels, no difference).

When I set Traktor's audio output to M-Track (Shared Mode), I get a small signal (maybe noise?) showing on OBS, and the sound I get is very quiet through the speakers. Turning the volume up and down on the audio interface does not change the signal I get from OBS.

If I change Traktor audio to M-Track (Exclusive Mode), the sound is much louder through the speakers, but the signal from OBS is totally zero.

Where am I going wrong? Thanks and hope everyone is staying safe out there.

Most DAWs use ASIO to communicate with audio devices. OBS does not support ASIO audio sources by default, without installing the ASIO plugin. Even so, many ASIO sources are exclusive-mode only and can only be used by one program at a time (so either OBS, or your DAW), and even with the plugin OBS has a number of limitations on how it can interact with ASIO-based devices.

There is the WASAPI mode for the audio interface in Traktor's audio settings but OBS doesn't pick up any sound when Traktor is set to that. I've looked all through these forums and am totally stumped. Thanks for the reply!

For anyone reading..... I dont know the technical reasons for it, but here is how I solved the issue:

Traktor S4 outputs connected to inputs of the audio interface. Second set of Traktor outputs connect to speakers. Traktor audio routing is set to the S4 controller. OBS set to the audio interface (as I did) but now it will catch the signal!

Remember to ensure audio interface knobs aren't cranked - I had insane static because the gains were up all the way. Super noob stuff but I am a super noob - someone gifted me all this hardware a long time ago and I am just getting educated on how it all works out.

Hey, are you running everything through one computer? Is everything stable? Im just starting to setup my MacbookPro (running tractor) which is connected to the S4. But wasn't sure whether to have OBS on a different Mac (if you have one). I was going to route out S4 Booth into Numark IO which is plugged into another mac and run OBS from there. Do think this is a little over kill? I'm a Noob, too, so any tips welcome.
