Question / Help Trouble with Neverwinter Nights

So I'll start this with saying that so far I have loved this product, its flexibility, and its ease of use. If I did not enjoy the product as much as I did, I would not have bothered try to solve the problem below. So good job.

I'm trying to use OBS with a rather old game, the original NWN from 2002. So far I've run into QUITE a few problems, but I've been able to trouble shoot/keyboard smash most of them. However, there is one problem I cannot solve. OBS is fine capturing the main screen for the game, but once I try to load a level it gets stuck at the 100% loaded screen for the level I'm loading, but does not show the actual game. The cursor shows just fine. If I change level, a new loading screen pops up at 100% loaded, so the program obviously isn't freezing or crashing. I can still switch between scenes, turn on/off my mic, etc.

Useful information:
>I am running it on admin mode (I have to, or else it doesn't capturing NWN which is also on admin mode)
>OBS works fine for other games
>I have manually set the res to 800x600 (that is the res of the game)
>I am on windows 7

Below is a video file of what I mean. If you don't want to download the file, the video can be found on youtube at http://youtu.be/ONs26alelO4.

Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers.

PS. At the end of the video I talk about a transparency behind the loading screen. This only happens sometimes, and didn't actually happen during the video.

Yes, I am able to run the game just fine both with and without OBS. However, the game will not run without admin mode.

Don't get me wrong, it took me quite a bit of jury rigging and keyboard smashing to get a game from 2002 to run on this rig. However, I can't think of anything other than the admin mode which would effect OBS, most everything else has involved updates and addons.

NWN1? Does it only happen with that game?

Are there any potential hook conflicts, such as other capture programs, any graphics effects mods, or things that add in-game overlays? (Steam not included)

Yes, NWN1. I haven't tried OBS with too many difference games, but so far this is the only one I've had issues with.

I play with no hak packs or overrides which are not already in the original game. I have no other capture programs running, no mods, and while I have the game hooked up to my steam account I can't ~actually~ shift+tab. I have no other overlay programs.

Hm, could you also include a log file of that particular session? I'll probably have to install NWN again (I have diamond in a box in my closet somewhere. I actually would really love to play the underdark expansion again)

I'm not the most code-savvy person around... think you could walk me through getting you that?

As a side note, if you ever wanted to get back into NWN, check out some of the mulitplayer servers, my favorite among them being Arelith. Imagine World of Warcraft... only everyone stays in character, all the time.

Are you trying to record the game in fullscreen mode? I've had issues with the original OBS's fullscreen recording in the past (I think it's called "Game Capture"?), all of which I've been able to fix by recording my games in windowed mode. In your specific case I'd recommend using DxWnd for that: It's a program used to fix compatibility issues with older games and forcing them into windowed mode, you can then record your game as a "Window Capture" source.

I've tried both window capture and game capture mode. Both of them land with the same problem. DxWnd? Sure, I'll check it out.

The GOG version seems to work fine here, I can both capture the menu and the game. I do need to run obs as admin.

Log files are accessible via the help menu. Help menu -> Log files -> Upload last log file -> Post the link. Or just attach the specific log file to a post.

@ Osiris do you run nwn as admin?

Here 'ya go. https://gist.github.com/be135e9ca07fa49b1c49

I honestly don't know what 90% of those lines mean, but I see a lot of "failed" which I'm guessing isn't good. I believe I switch to my nwn feed around line 100, before that I'm in a feed with a gif and soundtrack running a loop.

There's also about 11,000 lines of "[game-capture: 'NWN'] gl_shmem_capture: failed to get last fbo: 1282"

You can't have multiple game captures pointing at the same game and have them work.
Even in separate scenes
