Hi guys,

I found a good deal about an old 2 * Xeon server and i wanted to know if i would be able to send low compressed flow to this server and let it encode and send it to twitch or an other platform.

Stuff (RAM Upgraded to 64 GB):

I wish to stream at the best quality this hardware could allow me to for a 1080p, if it's possible to do it of course.

Best regards,

Jérémy.

Try using NVENC or AMD (or quicksync if you dont have a GPU) codec set to CQP. Set your CQP will change bitrate and quality lower cqp would be higher quality but much higher bitrate, and higher cqp would be lower quality but smaller size. Try starting around 14.

If you cant send that much data to your server then you can use CBR or VBR set to as fast as you can handle. Bitrate is in Kbps so if you set it to 60000 that would be 60 Megabits per second.

If you have to use the x264 encoder use ultrafast cpu preset and CRF (basically the same as CQP) and of course you can still set it to CBR or VBR just like the other codecs. If you set it to superfast you will get a bit of compression but much better quality.

I didn't bought it yet, i was expecting a technical answer about 2 * Old Xeon to encode in x264. I moved this topic in the good categorie.
