Question / Help Tips on optimising performance ( recording format & scaling )

Hello ,

I don't want anything too complicated , I just want to know 2 things for recording on Windows 10 ( not streaming ) :

- What is the most CPU efficient recording format ( mov , mp4 , mkv , ... ) ?

- Is it more efficient to have an ouput that is downscaled or that is on the same scale ?

Thanks in advance for any answers , it'd be of a huge help

Right now I am recording in mp4 with 1080p rescaled to 720p and the footage is laggy at CPU intensive moments , I simply guess that my PC isn't the most efficient and hope that changing the recording format can be of use .

For the rest I have already consulted the forums for answers to any other questions , these are the only ones I could not get an answer for , thanks again .

1. Recording format doesn't matter as to CPU usage. That said you should be recording in the FLV or MKV format and remux it (if you need) to mp4 after the recording is done.

2. If you are using the downscale option in settings->Video, than OBS is using your GPU. If you are doing the downscale/resize in settings->Output, then you are using your CPU for the downscale.
