Question / Help The truth of why Elgato has no drivers for Mac streamers/OBS?

Hello... I have sent in a few messages to Elgato concerning my desire to use my Game Capture HD device with my MacBook Pro and OBS. I am sure many of us have done the same thing because while Elgato does offer their own software to Mac users, it is lacking in features for streamers that want to customize their streams beyond the basics.

The standard 'canned' response they insert into all their replies is this :

The biggest hurdle here is Mac OS X itself. It's no secret that Mac OS X limits the access that developers have to the hardware, and without this direct access, less optimization can be done. We have been and continue to work hard on optimization, and our developers are continually reaching out to Apple engineers to understand what more can be done.

Is this statement true or is Elgato either not capable of devoting resources or not interested in devoting resources? Just trying to really figure out the root of the issue here because all responses to Mac users here on the OBS forums instruct us to reach out to Elgato for support.

Magewell, BlackMagic, AJA all either ship drivers with their equipment or make equipment that works with the standard MacOS video device drivers. These devices generally work as well or better than Elgato's, both on MacOS and Windows.

The above message from Elgato is pure, weapons grade BS.

Most of the responses to Mac users here using Elgato amount to, "don't buy Elgato." At least not if you need to use the hardware with MacOS.

Thanks for that response... I had actually messaged BlackMagic about their devices and told them I wanted to stream my iPad gaming to Twitch and they responded that their devices are not suited. I will look and see if I saved that response. I was surprised because I have seen other say the Blackmagic devices to indeed work for them.

I actually sent Elgato a message a day or so ago asking them how they get their device to work with THEIR software on a Mac if there are no easy ways to access the hardware of a Mac to create a driver to OBS or other software... I was told, "good question and I'll forward that to a senior tech advisor"... lol
