Question / Help Tabbed into OBS frames vs. tabbed into game frames

When trying to record a game, I seemed to have problems with frame rate. On my main monitor, was Overwatch. The frames never really dropped in game. On my second monitor, OBS Studio was running. When I was tabbed into OBS, my frames would stay consistently at 60fps, but the moment I clicked onto Overwatch, the frames in the recording dropped to around 30-49fps. The moment I click back onto OBS, it goes back to 60fps. What is the issue, and what can I fix?

1. Update OBS
2. In Overwatch settings set limit FPS to display based. (you can also turn VSync on but in overwatch that adds some weird smoothening effect that makes it hard to aim, but you can also use that if you want)

This will only work if/when you are getting over 60fps in game. If you aren't getting over 60fps then lower your settings. (For some reason in Overwatch the menu fps sucks a lot of the time.) So you will have to test in game. (Practice range should work)

If your monitor is higher than 60hz then you will have to manually cap your framerate to 60. (You won't get the benefit of of the higher refresh rate, but it is necessary to prevent lag in stream.

The reason this happens is Overwatch is using up all your GPU and there is not enough left for OBS. By limiting your game FPS it frees up some GPU for OBS to use.

If you don't like capping your FPS:
You can also try using window capture but most people get more lag that way.
Some people use other recording software (like me) to record games like this.
