Question / Help SyphonInject in OBS shows preview window video, not live video

Hi,

I am trying to use SyphonInject in OBS 21.1.1 on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.5.

I want to send the live OBS video to another app as a Syphon source using SyphonInject.

However, SyphonInject in OBS is not sending the live video. Instead it is sending the preview video (seen in the preview source window).

Anyone know how to fix this? I can't find a solution.

Just to make sure I understand-- what are you trying to do?

SyphonInject works like Game Capture on Windows-- it's a way of capturing an app's window, in a way that performs better than window capture (which is very slow on MacOS).

So by injecting OBS itself, you'd be getting OBS' window... not OBS' output.

I think you'd be better off installing the NDI plugin, running an NDI monitor app, and then injecting THAT, if you have to get it somewhere else as a Syphon source.

I always a appreciate when someone takes the time to post the details, so readers can better understand what's happening under the hood.

Hi @Narcogen,

» I installed the NDI plugin.
» I set the NDI output setting to "Main output."
» I'm running an NDI monitor app I found on the Apple app store. I see the OBS main window video in the NDI monitor.
» I then use "SyphonInject" to inject into the NDI monitor.

However in the projection mapping app, where I need to see the video, I don't see an NDI or OBS syphon source.

Do my steps above sound correct?

Hi @Narcogen, I got it to work!

I downloaded the NewTek NDI Tools which includes the NewTek NDI Video Monitor.

I was able to inject Syphon into the NewTek NDI Monitor app and now I can see my OBS streams in my video mapping app!

I'm going to post a how-to video later today.
