Question / Help Sufficient Hardware but I am Clueless

Hey guys, so I'm trying to stream and I can't seem to figure out the best settings to stream on OBS Studio. The games i'd mostly be streaming is CSGO, H1Z1, and Overwatch.

When I try to stream, my gameplay is fine, with expected frame drop (300+ while not streaming to 200ish while streaming), but when I'm watching the stream on twitch it stutters and looks very laggy. However, when i just record the game, it is fine, no stutters or anything. I've tried bitrates from 2000-3500 and its still like that.

I know I must be doing something wrong because I have some friends who have similar setups as me and stream fine. I haven't overclocked my GPU or my CPU but maybe I should look into that? I was just wondering if someone could tell me what I'm doing wrong, tell me what settings I should use, or if there's anything I should download to better optimize my hardware for 1080 30fps streams.

PC Specs
  • CPU: Intel Core i5-6600K
  • Motherboard: MSI Z170A KRAIT Gaming
  • RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB DDR4
  • Video Card: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970 WINDFORCE 3X OC Edition
  • Windows 10
  • 400Mb/s upload (university internet)

Thanks for any help!

you will not be able to stream/record smoothly without vsync

1. 60 desktop refresh
2. 60 or 30 in obs
3. 60 in game if there is switch for it (like bf3, bf4, overwatch)
4. vsync in game on
(replace with 59,94 and 29,97 for 59,94 display like hdmi tv)
with 144hz monitor its fastest and most reliable to sacrifice 144 and follow 1,2,3,4

Is there anyway that I can have 144hz on my end but output the stream in 30/60 fps?
