The issue that I am having seems very strange to me, though I am not very technologically inclined. Given some symptoms I have uncovered, I believe it is settings related. Help would be extremely appreciated, as I hope to share new game content in a couple of days.
Stats:
*I use OBS Studio, 32 bit.
*I use an Elgato HD60S capture card.
*I use astro a40 mixamp pro headphones.
Problem:
In a nutshell, OBS has stopped picking up audio from the capture card after having worked fine for many months.
When the issue arose:
I was turning down the volume of my desktop so it wasn't so loud in my headphones. This action is irrelevant to what the stream was hearing, until I accidentally turned it down to 0, then back up to it's normal volume level. At this point, my TV would stop playing sound from my xbox (via the capture card) whether muted or not, and OBS stopped picking up sound from the capture card as well. In addition, my computer stopped sending audio through the auxiliary jack connected directly to the aux jack to my mixamp, going to my headphones, though it would play audio through the speakers if I disconnected the aux jack from the computer.. Game sound was still going through to my headphones, connected via optical from the xbox to the mixamp.
Things I have discovered:
*I was able to restore audio through the auxiliary jack after this issue by playing with the window's Sound settings, disabling and enabling several items.
*The problem repeats from the beginning if I turn the volume down to 0 and back up again (discontinuing audio through the auxiliary jack).
*Opening the software that comes with the ElGato restores sound for my TV, and allows me to hear audio from the capture card on my computer (game audio on desktop not desired, but shows that the computer does receive game audio). If I close this software, the TV audio continues to function properly. If I open OBS x32, TV audio discontinues, and OBS does not show any audio coming from the capture card in the 'Mixer' portion (OBS does not show audio from capture card while ElGato software is open, but then again the OBS does not have control of the capture card at this point). When I close OBS, the audio is still discontinued on my TV until I open the ElGato software again. Opening both at the same time has no effect, as one takes control of the capture card, locking out the other application.
How things are connected: (In case it helps)
*Xbox audio is connected via optical to the mixamp, going to my headphones.
*Xbox audio is also connected to my computer and TV via the capture card, HDMI continuing to the TV and USB to my computer.
*There is an HDMI cable from my computer to the TV, to use it as a second monitor on occasion.
*An auxiliary cable is connected to my computer taking sound to the "Aux" connection on my mixamp, going to my headphones.
If any other information is needed, let me know and I shall try and provide. It may also be worth noting that I have no clue if "Line - Elgato Sound Capture" in my Recording tab for Sound ever showed any audio, as it does not currently, even when I have ElGato software open, and the game's audio is playing through my computer.
Like I said, everything functioned perfectly until I scrolled down the desktop's volume to 0. I am stumped.
