Question / Help Stuck on Stopping Recording... Unknown Error

Hello everyone,

I've scoured the forums far and wide for a solution to this problem that I've been having recently.

This never happened until maybe a month or two ago. Everything with OBS went perfectly until I encountered this problem.

And it doesn't happen all the time either. It records properly and spits out a working MP4 file most of the time, but this happens occasionally, and it's killing me... It also happens even if I select MKV as the file output.

The recording starts fine, but it gets stuck on "Stopping Recording..." When this happens, the recording file (whether it's MP4 or MKV) doesn't record more than 5 or 6 minutes and just stops.

I have attached the relevant log. The error is near the end.

16:30:04.183: ==== Recording Start ===============================================
16:30:04.183: [ffmpeg muxer: 'adv_file_output'] Writing file 'E:/YouTube/RAW Videos/2017-03-07_16-30-03.mp4'...
16:35:45.307: [NVENC encoder: 'recording_h264'] nvenc_encode: Error encoding: Unknown error occurred
16:35:45.496: Error encoding with encoder 'recording_h264'
17:05:41.924: ==== Shutting down ==================================================

If someone could please help me figure out what's wrong, I would be very grateful. Please let me know if I need to provide any additional information.

Thank you in advance!

Ignoring the fact that saving directly to mp4 isn't recommended, some versions of the nvidia drivers are pretty broken

Thank you for your quick reply, Harold.

This was the first change I tried, in fact. The issue appeared to persist even with MKV, more or less to the same degree as with MP4.

I think the changes most relevant to the start of this issue was indeed an update to the NVidia drivers as well as my sound card.

Do you think I should just rollback my NVidia drivers to before the issues started?
