Hello guys,

I' m new to this forum and I've been streaming for few months but there was always this issue which I didn't consider worth fixing.
On my few recent streams couple of guys asked me if I'm playing on stretched resolution and I'm not. So my resolution is 1280x1024(default) but I use Base (canvas) resolution 1920x1080 and Output(scaled) resolution 1920x1080..
Should I change these resolutions and will they make game look normal ?
I know it is not a big deal but the game on stream looks bit blurry and I guess it shouldn't since I have 5k bitrate..

Thanks in advance

Your guy is correct.
Resolution 1280x1024 is 5:4 aspect ratio, while 1920x1080 is 16:9 aspect ratio. So if you scale your local 1280x1024 resolution to 1920x1080, OBS will scale with factor 1.5 in x-direction but only 1.1 in y-direction, which is seen as stretched on a native 1920x1080 monitor.
Scale your 1280x1024 proportionally, not stretch, with "fit to screen" but not "stretch to screen". This will result in vertical black bars on the stream but not distorted video any more. You can avoid black bars or stretched output only if you yourself use a resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio, such as 1280x720 instead of 1280x1024.

Thanks a lot. I get it all now and I'll fix it today.

Hey!
I'm having a similar issue but I don't think its as easy to see or fix, I only noticed when playing a game called Osmos where the game uses tons of perfect circles, watching OBS and a VOD of mine I realized the viewer sees oblong shapes not circles, I stream at 1920x1080 and downscale to 1280x720 which I believe are both 16:9 AR and my monitor is set to 1920x1080 and I use the transform tool to "Fit to Screen" any help will be appreciated.

Edit.
I also just checked my Cam, which is set to resolution 1280x720 and it is also distorting the image, I used a Stress ball to compare and it was oblong
