Question / Help Streaming on a mac

Hello everyone I have a bar and new top of the line imac. I have been trying to fine tune the stream settings. My last two streams have been dropping frames like crazy. I upgraded my internet two days ago and now have an average upload speed of 30+ mbps.

Last night I had another stream and was doing 3 display captures on one scene. The video was a bit choppy. Last night I lowered my fps to 30. It was at 60. I have the x264 encorder set. Not sure if I should try the apple hardware encoder. I also have the output at 4000 kbps.

I also had an error at the end of the hour long stream from youtube. It said "please use key frame frequency of 4 seconds or less. Currently, keyframes are not being sent often enough which can cause buffering. The current keyframe frequency is 8.4 seconds"

Please help. I feel like with my current computer and internet I should have top notch video quality.

how are you getting the display capture video?

try x264 at 3000kbps key frame interval at 2

you can look at the OBS stats to see what the issue maybe

in the menu
view > docks > stats

do a test stream and see what stats starts to go sideways.

Is x264 better than using the apple hardware encoder? I will test out these settings tonight.

apple hardware encoder is less taxing your your CPU but we can try it once you try the above
It looks like FPS drop on the red. As well as average time to render frame, and frames missed. Seems to happen if I have a media source playing certain videos. Last night was not during a video is was 3 display captures.

True the apple hardware encoder with the default settings. Post a screen capture of the x264 test stats please
Ok now there is a new problem. While I was testing this with you I downloaded the ndi plug in. The ndi option was not showing up in obs so I closed obs and restarted the computer. Now obs will not open at all. Also this will take a few minutes. I tried restarting again and I got sucked into a computer update....

I am booted back up. Any idea why obs is not booting? There is a big page that pops up..
