Question / Help Streaming Game Capture Flickering

Hey guys,

Log file: https://gist.github.com/4edcf364769f87542bcac5d8bfcf755b

Video showcasing issue: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/173335873

Issue: As a last result I'm reaching out to the forums to see what exactly my issue is. I've googled for the past 24 hours, trying basically all the fixes I've come across running the 'obs flickering' google question. Anything from messing with my monitor's refresh rate, running my program in window mode, and messing with the obs settings (resolution, bitrate, etc.)

Now for starters, total war warhammer is the game. I know there's tons of units on there. I know this is a serious issue. When I use "Display Capture" scene, I DO NOT RUN INTO THIS ISSUE. This issue seems to be limited to the Game Capture function, which is weird, because everyone on the internet seems to suggest running games in game capture for most efficient and stable streams.

Am I missing something obvious? I'm very new to all of this, so it's likely I am. I streamed the other day - you can find the other videos in my profile - and had little to no issues. As soon as there are more units on screen though, it seemed the flickering started. It does not make sense for me that this is an issue of hardware/bandwidth, since "Display Capture" fixes my issue outright. If Display Capture is the suggested method for solving my issue, is there anything I should be aware of? I know if I CTD, my desktop is shown to all the world - which is why I'd prefer game capture if i could get it work.

Thanks in advance! <3

Thanks for your continued help Harold. I've done all three of those as of this morning. Game capture is still flickering for me an insane amount. I might be forced to stream my total war broadcasts using "Display Capture" if we can't figure it out. Display capture doesn't have any issues running my game. This also seems to be an issue exclusive to total war - I streamed Dead by Daylight earlier this morning and I had no issues.

Is game capture really as efficient as people say? Total war does not flicker when I'm in the campaign. It only seems to become a real issue when there's LOTS of units on the screen. And all of this is so weird, because again, display capture fixes all my problems. :/

I ran obs as administrator, still ended up stuttering. Here's the first tab of gpu-z.

I streamed yesterday using display capture - ran into 0 issues and everything ran smoothly. It's extremely strange 'game capture' is causing me issues, given how efficient it is supposed to be. The only thing that makes sense to me is an issue with game capture's settings. For whatever reason, game capture just can't handle large amount of things happening on screen. It doesn't flicker at points, but when there's a lot happening, it can't keep up. I messed around with game capture settings, but nothing ended up helping.

I might just have to use display capture from now on with total war games. :/ I'm blaming the large amount of units on the screen.

Hey @Streen have you found a solution to your problem? I am having the same thing. My screen just flickers when a lot of windows are open and stuff is going on there. What can be done? I have literally tried every possible solution just like you did! The only remaining thing is to buy try a different capture card (I am using HD60S from Elgato). Can anyone help me?
