Question / Help Stream w/Overlays but record only Gameplay for youtube

I have been searching the internet for months and have not come across a appropriate solution so I hope by making my own thread I will get one. I simply want to stream my gameplay (typically my xbox gameplay through my eelgato HD60 capture card) to twitch with my overlay, webcam, and alerts while at the same time record just the game play and the gameplay sound to later be used for youtube for like reviews and such. I hear and saw a demo that the crappiest software in the work, aka elgato, can accomplish this but for some reason I cant find a way to do it with the most powerful stream/record software out there.

Can someone please help me?

there really isnt anything else out there other than the crap elgato software that can accomplish this. It appears that platforms are not taking this feature very seriously and perhaps do not see the value in it. The sad part is this is the holy grail of features for any videogame streamer. I cant think of a single streamer that doesnt have a interest in putting content on youtube as well. I absolutely hate having to play every single game TWICE just to get the footage I need for both youtube and twitch. It delays all of my processes and I can never get reviews or anything out on time. It forces me to make a choice between twitch (or some other streaming platform) and youtube when it would be so easy to accomplish both if I could simply record the game play footage separately and at a different quality. What do we need to do as a community to make this happen? I have seen people asking for this feature for YEARs and never has it became a reality.

Well it doesn't have to be shadowplay. Just another program that can record it should work right?

You can try two instances of Studio but usually there are problems with that. You could try classic as well (or use classic for streaming and studio for recording since studio can have multiple audio tracks). Or I know a lot of people use other programs like xsplit.

I think I heard someone say that this feature was planned to be added. Keep in mind OBS is still in development.

no because what happens is once obs is using the elgato capture feed any other program or even another instance of OBS will just say the the feed I am trying to open is already in use. Similar to how you cant use the same webcam feed twice over two obs windows nor programs. It has to be built into the software. The software has to capture and record them gameplay and then push it out to the stream in one seamless path.

The feature you're talking about is called multicording, and it available in some pro-sumer and most professional level products. For example, multicording is available in the 4k and Pro versions of vMix, so if you're willing to shell out for those, that is an option. Do note that multicording requires the creation of an additional simultaneous encoder instance for every clean cut you want to make, so even the addition of one extra recording will likely consume a great deal of resources.

Another option would be to get a program like Manycam that lets you use DirectShow devices (like capture cards) in more than one program at a time simultaneously, and then run 2 instances of OBS with the capture card, and record on one and stream on the other.

As for proper multicording support in OBS, it's unlikely to come for quite a while.
