Stream in 1080/Record short clips in 4k-looking for advice!

Hello,

I’ve been streaming the creation of my artwork via a Panasonic GH5, OBS and a M1 Mac Mini (Now M1 Mac Studio Max—10 core CPU, 32 core GPU, 64 gig RAM) to Twitch and I’m looking to refine my OBS config a bit.

Ultimately, I would like to stream to Twitch at 1080P but record short 4K clips(less than 1:00) clips from time to time to my harddrive for future editing.

Can anyone help suggest better settings with a 4k canvas, streaming in 1080 but recording in 4k (again, SHORT clips) while streaming? In my dropdown, I have x264 and both APPLE VT H264 Hardware OR software encoders--Any suggestions which encoder would work best?

My guess is that I can have my Base Resolution at 3840x2160 and in ADVANCED STREAMING OUTPUT check Rescale Output to 1920x1080 to send the 1080p signal to Twitch and then under ADVANCED RECORDING OUTPUT i should still be able to record in 4k? If thats correct, any suggestions on recording bitrate? My MAX Studio is pretty powerful but I dont want the stream to chug.

I've tried keeping the 1080p footage i've been recording from the stream but its pretty low fidelity and i can't really zoom or crop the way I need to.

Really appreciate the help

yes that's correct, as for the settings, I suggest using CBR for Streaming and VBR for recording, for streaming at 1080p 5000 to 7000 Kbps are more than enough, as for the VBR settings I suggest you look for the best bit rate for 4k content.
