Question / Help Strange problem, video corruption.

Hi, so I just tried to record some let's plays. The initial test recording of a few seconds turns out fine but when I'm done recording a whole episode the file seems corrupted, and windows wont display a thumbnail for it.

It seems to happen if I record for longer then 25 mins but that is not for certain, short tests work fine, and ten minute BLR matches seem fine but this is so annoying it made me try to find another program to record with but I haven't had any luck.

Any ideas anyone?

Edit: I just recorded a 31 min vid and it works. I need to know what glitch is happening and how to fix it :(

Edit 2: this glitch doesn't quite seem to be random. When I play BLR which what I mostly play OBS has always worked. When I play Talos Principle (play it very rarely) today, it failed twice in a row, so that's two full eps gone, and that game uses a checkpoint system so I have to permanently skip parts that are not recorded, I can't go back and re do it. but today its failed twice in a row and has made it necessary to start the game again from the beginning I really can't use OBS if I don't figure this out.

I can fix it by using x264 instead of nvenc but when I do that the video is very choppy. My CPU is a 4770K, im trying the settings from here but I can't seem to get smooth clear video. could someone offer some suggesstionns? Thanks

I'd like to hear from someone who also has a 4770K (mine is unoverclocked). Gameplay and video seems smooth on CRF 21 Ultrafast. That seems to be the best I can get.

post a log that contains recording session, info in sticky
make sure you enabled vsync in game
60 or 144hz monitor?

use vlc media player

Here is the log.

Normally I don't enable vsync since i use gsync, but I enabled it and the recording was still glitched.

I have a 100hz monitor. The vsync test and the non vsync test I just did to get the log file were both done in 60hz mode, but normally I game in 100hz.

And I do always use VLC.

Note that it is only this one game that wont record with nvenc. The info in the log file is not in regard to x264 being very choppy and seeming to use more CPU then it should, it's for the nvenc glitchy recording of Talos Principle.

how this corruption/glitch look like? just choppy recording? if yes then:

vsync always on
two choices
1. change desktop refresh to 60, you will sacrifice 100hz but this is most reliable solution, you just need 60hz source material for encoding to make rec smooth
2. try "limit capture framerate" in game capture source

1 stongly preferred

No not choppy it's looks a real mess but everything mostly goes green, and the video freezes for a second or two on the first frame, then everything goes weird and green. The choppy playback is when I try to record with x264.

is it same on cqp=23?
strange..try DDU in safe mode and reinstalling driver but if other games record well on 15 then maybe its game specific
another thing is nvenc isnt perfect yet and I prefer quicksync icq=23, you wpuld need to enable it in bios and install latest stable driver
