Stop video recording

I recently added the video recording add-on to OBS.
Little did I know that it had a mind of its own.
The past couple of days I've noticed huge video files on my PC. 14G or more.
How do I turn off automatic screen recording?

If it does it natively why does OBS offer this source recorder (which I downloaded and installed)?

You only said, "video recording," with no further qualifiers. OBS has a native button already to record the main output, with no add-on needed.

The Source Record plugin adds a filter that you can put on a source, and record that *instead* of the main out.
If you're having problems with that specifically, then you can ask on the Discussion page over there.

But since we're here, what are you doing anyway?

I couldn't find the native button to record so I started searching the net on how to record.
Could you please explain the difference between "main output" and "source"?
None of the menus at the top talk about 'Main output' but I do see 'Source'.
I'm trying to record the video output from a couple of cameras I have set up.

If you think my add-on is unnecessary or even harmful, I will uninstall it and go with what we
have natively, if it can do the job.

It's difficult to miss that, because it's in plain sight directly visible all the time. If your OBS doesn't look similar to this, I recommend you do View > Reset UI and Docks > Reset Docks.

Thanks very much koala that was very helpful.
My screen didn't look anything at all like the one you posted!
Do you think I should uninstall the add-on I installed?
Will I have access to the record button that your screenshot shows if I do?
Will I be able to select which camera I would like to record with if I do?

Something clearly isn't right with my OBS as it is now set up.
I just discovered another huge .mp4 file on my drive, recorded late last night.
I did NOT start the recording.
It's so large I cannot even open it to play!
I'm assuming OBS is recording it, I don't have any other app that does video recording.

Another ridiculously huge .mp4 file I just noticed. I immediately shut down OBS until I find out what's
going on. Any ideas how I can troubleshoot this?
I don't even have the bandwidth ($$) available to cover this with my ISP. :(

If this might help, here is a typical name for the .mp4 files that are being recorded.
Is this an OBS file naming system?

Also, an image like the one posted by koala will be useful.
Issues with a plugin is better to ask on the discussion section of the particular plugin page.

OK I am posting a link now for my Log File. I read it and noticed it is very 'game-centric'.
I don't do any gaming.
The first things I will do is uninstall the source-record plugin I installed a couple of days ago.
Next I will upgrade OBS to the latest version.
Then I will see if I have the recording capabilities mentioned above.
And finally I will monitor for rogue recordings to my flash drive.

OK an update...
I uninstalled the source plug-in.
I upgraded to the latest OBS version.
I do have the recording abilities that I didn't initially see (I did see them after koala's tip above).
Will monitor for rogue recordings.

But I immediately noticed that the new installation has messed with my AHK hotkey setup. :(
I worked for some time to get my script set up so that I could press a hotkey to:
a) load OBS if it hadn't been loaded yet today
b) minimize OBS if it was showing on screen
c) restore OBS if it was minimized to the task bar.

Now when I press my hotkey OBS isn't minimized. Rather OBS asks me if I want to start a second version of the program.

Good news!
I fixed the AHK hotkey problem. :)
AHK was looking for OBS 30.0.2 (my previous version).
Once I updated the code to OBS 31.0.1 it worked again.

I was starting to wonder if you got a bootlegged version of OBS. Who knows what *that* would do...

If the update got you the official version from here, then you *should* be okay.
