Question / Help Stinger cutting transition short

Hey guys, I have a MOV transition that is 2 seconds long and I am adding using the stinger option in OBS, transition time is at 2000ms but whenever it carries out the transition it cuts the video off and just cuts to new scene.

anyway to stop it cutting the transition off? I have attempted to speed up my transition but it looks very messy when sped up.

EDIT: so i managed to use premiere to get the transition playing in full but it does so in webm format and a completely black background. anyone know a way to get best of both

EDIT:

Mov Transition

WebM Transition

If the video is 2 seconds and the transition time is 2000ms, it will transition at the end of the video.

I think you're a bit confused here. The transition time is the point where the scene change takes place, not the duration of the transition.

You'd set the transition time to 1000ms if you want it to transition in the direct middle of your video stinger, or figure out the exact point in the video where you want the scene cutover to take place.

Can you upload the original MOV file?

ok so i wanted to see if 2000ms would play the video in full. I am aware that the transition time is when it will swap the scene.

I had to use an online webm converter which seemingly worked as my adobe premiere was not giving me the option to include alpha channel

I am also seeing this same issue.

Reported at https://obsproject.com/mantis/view.php?id=1122

In summary:

I created a transition with Blender rendered with alpha to PNGs, compiled to a webm video using the command:

ffmpeg -framerate 60 -f image2 -i ren%04d.png -c:v libvpx-vp9 -pix_fmt yuva420p output.webm

with 65 frames and the transition at frame 30 (OBS considers this video having frames numbered 1-66 with the transition at frame 31.)

When adding this video to OBS (version 21.0.1), the transition happens at frame 31, but the transition immediately ends there, and does not finish as expected.

I've solved this question with exporting my Adobe After effects file as AVI with RGB+Alpha instead of .mov with PNG codec.
Now it works even though the file is 400 MB now instead of 4 MB.

Yoho, good tidings I bring, I also have had this same problem for months now and have arrived at the solution! All I did was make the video be blank for a few seconds after the transition and OBS would cut the blank portion of the stinger and keep the rest nice and pristine! It's not much, but it's honest work.

Good tidings indeed! @ckvolle and @enzanki_ars are both right.

Either you (1) edit it on any .WEBM/mp4 video editor, or (2) you get a better i7 GTX1080 PC/laptop or better. I know for a fact that the preview on most of our ends still works, but once it comes to recording/stream it starts cutting off. This is the only way I can see it being fixed as of late, so do let me know in two years by 2025 or something if ya'lls got a better answer than I do.

I hope to make it to Google's results because jeez man, we're all suffering the same problem without any proper solution in sight.

Here's my observations for you all. This is how you fix the stinger ending early, and what specifically is causing it.

1.) Edit your stinger to be 2-5 seconds longer. It cuts off for most of us.

2.) It's a hardware issue. Your graphics/processor isn't powerful enough, or you have too many apps/tabs/etc open.

Just adding my two cents, adding on time at the end of the video does not work for me. I’ve tried both a mov and avi.

When I first select the transition video in OBS the preview is correct. Upon saving and testing it in OBS, it gets cut off. Then when I go back into the preview I can see the problem. It’s clearly off on the timing because now I can see the scene switch is even happening sooner, like just before it’s supposed to. So the whole thing is running too fast and the video is playing at regular speed, or maybe the video is slow idk.

It’s just weird ghat it works the first time in the preview. Anyways I also tried cacheing it in ram and the same issue is there so I don’t think it’s performance related.

Nevermind, apparently I just didn't add on enough. It's not getting cut off now but I still have the issue where the transition point is off. Though that's relatively easy to fix just by guessing a few times until you get it to the right spot.
