When I open up my obs I cannot record my display screen because it shows up as a black screen. Please help I have tried many online "solutions". Does anyone know how to fix this?

If you're on a laptop, here's how to do the correct GPU selection needed to disable Game+Window Capture, and enable Desktop Capture:

If you've tried that, post a logfile from a streaming or recording attempt at least 30 seconds in length and we can take a look. Chances are very good that the GPU isn't set to the right one, there are a LOT of "guides" out there with outdated information, or janky workarounds (like uninstalling the GPU drivers, disabling stuff in Device Manager... none of which is necessary).

If you're on a laptop, I figure you have 2 GPUs, 1 Intel and NVIDIA, for example.
Just launch OBS using either Intel or NVIDIA GPU (whichever works) by right clicking on it and changing the graphics processor.
As an alternative, you can consider connecting to an external display if you want to use your discrete GPU for recording.

Thank you for helping! I had to combine tutorials and install a driver and put my discord on power saving
