Question / Help Starting the output failed.

13:48:06.784: [jim-nvenc] Could not load function: NvEncodeAPIGetMaxSupportedVersion
13:48:06.785: [NVENC encoder: 'simple_h264_stream'] Failed to open NVENC codec: Operation not permitted

Are you sure your drivers are up to date? The above error seems to indicate that the new NVENC encoder needs an NvEncode API version higher than the one you have.
 
Yes, I know you wrote that, which is why I asked if you are sure, because the OBS logs indicate that OBS thinks there's a newer version than what you have.

Did you update using Windows update, or an automatic updater, or did you go to the Nvidia site and select the newest available driver download that supports your card? Can you tell me the version of the driver you have installed?

Are you running any other apps that might be using NVENC-- like ShadowPlay, or a virtual reality app?
 
There were no drivers for a GeForce GTX 780M on the NVidia web site, and nothing in Windows Update. Out of desperation, I downloaded their GForce Experience program from the Drivers page. It installed an unnamed Game Driver and then I was able to record my screen.
 
I can confirm what jkorchok is saying, something has changed with this last update, I can't stream either, and sometimes I get lucky and it works but then the stream is completely pixelated and blurry. With no changes to OBS except the update something went wrong without me doing anything.
