"Starting the output failed. Please check the log for details." Error on MacOS

I keep getting this error message (photo attached) when trying to stream with OBS. I see tons of support for this error on the Windows forum, but I can find barely any information regarding what to do on a Mac. Any ideas? Streaming and recording encoder are both set to Apple H264 Software encoder.

I just got this same error with OBS 27, no problem with OBS 26.1.2. I'm using a MacBook Pro with Mojave (13" Mid 2014). All the log file says is: Stream output type '(null)' failed to start!

Following on, I solved the problem by switching from Apple VT264 Hardware to Apple VT264 Software under Output/ Advanced. I hope that helps.
