1. General info/ Description
Starcraft 2 runs at 20-40fps if the in-game resolution is set to 4k (3840x2160) and have OBS studio 0.14.2 opened(not even streaming....just open obs studio switch to game capture scene).
If starcraft runs without obs studio open, frame rate is around 200 fps.
Obs studio video settings reset:
base resolution: 3840x2160
output resolution: 1280x720
2.Steps to reproduce.
OS : Windows 10 Pro 64Bit (Clean install. not upgrade version from windows 8.1)
CPU Name: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz
SLI (2 graphic cards) : Adapter 1: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
Adapter 2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
Motherboard: Asus ROG Ranger Maximus Vii
Memory : 32 Gb Corsair Vengence 2400 Mhz
I have 2 monitors .One 4k (3840x2160)-main monitor and a second one 1680x1080, both connected to SLI video cards setup.
For Gaming, I use my 4K monitor and the other one I keep a browser open, vlc for music, obs studio etc.
**If I run Starcraft 2 WITHOUT OBS Studio (just play the game) my frame rate is 200 fps all the time. Graphics settings in starcraft 2 are set to medium(even on ultra fps still at the same level, but I set it to medium for streaming reasons).
** If I run Starcraft 2 WITH OBS Studio open (I am not streaming, just open OBS studio and Game Capture) my ingame frame instantly goes down to 20-40 fps .... wich is almost unplayable.
If I start streaming, my FPS is at 20 to 40. So I cannot really stream at this settings. Game to Laggy
3. Work around
I found an easy workaround : Change In game resolution to 1920x1080 with obs studio video settings unchanged, and the frame rate stays around 200 FPS. And when I stream goes down to around 100 FPS so I ca stream and play at a decent FPS
Obs studio video settings unchanged:
base resolution: 3840x2160
output resolution: 1280x720
just use FIT to SCREEN option in obs-studio to stretch the 1920x1080 to 3840x2160
**Major Downside of setting in-game resolution to 1920x1080 the Game is Foggy and losses is crisp look. It looks Fuzzy and Blurry.
4. Logs / Additional Info and some assumptions :)
I have Obs studio with Browser plug-in and Scene Switcher. Issue is still reproducible without scene switcher plug-in.
I have tried to restart PC , Reinstall Nvidia drivers,Install/Uninstall / Clear registry OBS studio , try all kinds of setting, nothing worked. the issue is still present. SLI is working fine, starcraft2 is working fine by itself. I think this is not game related but I don't have any other game installed beside starcraft 2... so I didn't test this.
As 4K monitors are increasingly growing in popularity more people are gooing to encounter this problem, this is a must have feature if not implemented in OBS yet.
Please let me know if you need additional info.
