Sound from DJ setup to OBS?

I have the following setup: turntables/mixer that is going out to a Mackie 802VLZ4 and that is directly plugged into a Focusrite 4i4 - INPUT LINE IN 3/4.

In OBS I have tried both of the audio options (audio input capture and audio output capture) and neither default or selecting "speakers (Focusrite USB audio) will work and the sound meter for that option does nothing. I have verified that the Output Device in Windows is the speakers (Focusrite USB audio). However, the option for Audio Input Capture is "Analogue 1+2 (focurite USB audio).

What am I missing?

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying - it's a bit convoluted - but here's a few things that seem like they might be relevant:

---

OBS does not like multitrack devices. It absolutely insists that the entire device MUST be one source, with a surround-sound format determined entirely by the channel count. Thus, it "downmixes the surround sound to stereo" (or so it thinks), before it gives you any chance to mess with it at all. Probably not what you want.

The solutions to this are to either:
  • Use a different device to feed OBS, that ONLY presents 2 channels total to the PC.
  • Put a DAW in between, that *can* pick out individual channels, and then use a 2-channel virtual loopback device from there to OBS.
  • Use the ASIO plugin (if it still works), because it adds its own source in OBS that does happen to have a channel selector.

---

Audio Input Capture is for mics and other inputs to the PC.

Audio Output Capture grabs everything that leaves the PC on the selected device. Be aware that it does include EVERYTHING! If you capture your headphones, for example, because a game is going there, and you also use the same headphones to Monitor your mic, then you'll get an echo of the mic because it includes its own Monitor. Try to avoid that!

---

The Default device selection is good to show that a fresh installation works, with no knowledge whatsoever of what you're actually doing. It grabs whatever you're probably using at the moment. Beyond the initial test though, it becomes a liability. If for whatever reason, the operating system decides that you want to use a different device (correct or not), OBS's Default setting follows that. it's fairly common for people to say that their rig broke and they didn't do anything, and that's often why. The same Default setting is looking at a different device now.

Unless you have a very good reason, ALWAYS choose *a specific device* in OBS. Never Default. Then the OS's selection doesn't matter.

Thank you for the info. I added the ASIO for OBS and selected my audio interface, but still no sound from that option. I wonder if at this point, that I would need a mixer with USB so that I can select it within OBS? I.E. something like a 2 channel USB mixer alongside the one I have now, but the 2 channel is dedicated to the DJ setup only?

UPDATE: SOLVED. I wasnt paying attention to the "OBS Channels" in the ASIO. After realizing that the sound was coming from channels 3/4 in my audio interface, I selected those in the OBS Channel 1 and 2 options properties as Input 3 and Input 4.

I can now hear sound from the DJ setup with no issues.
