question 1: what is the difference between scenes and profiles?
can you copy profiles setting from one to another?

question 2. how do i decrease the look of compression? (is that what the bits per sec. is for)?

A profile is where you are streaming to..Like Twitch,Youtube, etc.
A scene is what you make to stream to a profile.
Sources are what you add to the scene, like a webcam, images, videos etc.
