Question / Help (Solved) Quick Sync Enabled, Massive FPS Loss

Hello!

I have a GTX970, and have been using OBS Studio for a few days with good results, and I am almost happy with my stream quality. The major issue is I have to turn down some in game settings that I would prefer to be on. I have an i7 3770k CPU which supports Quick Sync, so I enabled it in bios, downloaded the IGD drivers, physically connected the monitor, and Quick Sync option is now available.

The problem: Just by opening OBS Studio, my in-game FPS takes a huge hit. No recording, no streaming, quick sync not selected, and preview turned off. The only way to get the FPS back is to close OBS Studio.

Should I give up on using Quick Sync for rendering streams and recordings, or is there a fix? I suspect my IGD is somehow interfering with the process in a manner opposite to what Quick Sync is supposed to do.Thanks guys!

There is no need to physically connect anything to the iGPU unless you're on Windows 7, and in fact you should avoid doing so. If you connected a monitor to it and moved OBS to that monitor, that would be the cause of your performance issues.

Ahh, that would make sense. The guide I read was written in 2012. :)

So I disconnected the HDMI cable from my motherboard to my monitor, and the problem still persists. It seems the FPS hit is not AS bad, but that could be to a variety of other issues.

Running OBS on the same monitor I am running my game. Any other suggestions? I have spent the entire first half of my day looking for a solution. I'm still not ready to abandon Quick Sync and I keep reading about how much more CPU headroom is saved.

I figured it out.

I had a setting in my Oculus Rift renderer config that I forgot to revert. This coupled with:

A. Removing the connection from my IGD and
B. Rebooting my computer

has now fixed my issue.

As an FYI, Quick Sync is terrible for streaming, but glorious for recording.

Thanks for the help!
