Question / Help [SOLVED] OBS-Studio on Laptop doesn't upload above 800kb/s on Ethernet but OK over Wifi

Hi,

I am using OBS-Studio since a long time ago for recording, and for streaming since a few weeks. I have a good internet connection ( ~950 Mbps download, ~500Mbps upload, ~12ms ping, attached screenshot taken with the streaming laptop & and ethernet cable).

When I am streaming with my desktop computer, all good, no issue. Same thing when I am streaming over Wifi with my Laptop while fetching data from an NDI Source.

But, whenever I want to stream using ethernet while on my laptop, I can't get it to work, it goes red and drops every frame while staying under 800kb/s.

I have tried with the same ethernet cable I am using on my other computer ( Cat.6, the cable is directly connected to the router on the other end ), I have tried with and without NDI Source, with and without IPv6 enabled, I have my firewall turned off and I have prioritised the connections.

Even after reading the logs, I can't get to know what's happening.

I could really use any help. If you need anything, feel free to ask!

Thanks a lot.

Okay, so after looking everywhere in the forum, I've read something about an issue with Killer Control Center. While I do not have this app installed, I wanted to be sure that I had no trace or anything left in my laptop ( I have a Killer E2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller ), and it appears that I had registry keys and other stuff installed on my laptop.

So I downloaded a Killer Uninstaller, and after deeply uninstalling everything, it worked. I can now stream at a decent rate.

Hello,

I don't know if anyone is still interested in that. I still pose here a simple resolution to this problem.
The problem indeed comes from KILLER ETHERNET CONTROLLER and only from it. It sets up a procedure called "Killer Prioritization Engin" which is the origin of the problem.
there are therefore 2 simple solutions:
1- stop "Killer Prioritization Engin" which you will find in the management options of KILLER ETHERNET CONTROLLER. The easiest way is to go through the "KILLER INTELLIGENCE CENTER" winstore application, go to the options (the cogwheel at the top right of the window) and uncheck "Killer Prioritization Engin".
2- Simply go through wifi for your streams. The latter is generally out of the control of KILLER ETHERNET CONTROLLER (it depends on the configurations)

have fun

I also had this issue - OBS wasn’t the problem but windows 10 really screwed us up until we changed ISP. We were using a millimetre microwave 5ghz connection / wireless network across our village. The MacBook was fine but I needed to stream on windows and thankfully changing isp did the trick.

In my opinion, from my experience with laptops, most of the time its the driver. For Intel drivers for example, there are often several Versions and some just dont work for some applications. The second thing i recognized when installing my NDI Setup: i will only use Cat.7. And the third thing you can do is to buy a USB-Network Card. I bought a USB-C Gigabit Port and its working well - just as a workaround for you.
