Question / Help smooth gameplay super choppy playback

I record on 60-80 frames but in VLC/Windows MediaPlayer the playback is smooth for 5 seconds and then it drops to a slideshow of gameplay. All I want to do is use replay buffer to clip stuff and cannot use AMD Relive because it is so awful. Limiting my fps to 60 is not an optiopn since i play a fps. My specs are a ryzen 5 1500x RX 580 16gb ram HDD and SSD.
