Hi all,
I apologize if this is the wrong section, but I figured here was the best place.
I am looking to hook my camera (Panasonic AG-HMC 150P) directly to my laptop (Lenovo Y510p, Win8 64bit) via USB (siding with USB 3.0 for performance) and stream with OBS. I'm wondering if anyone had any experience with a similar setup, and if so, what they thought the best solution for a dongle might be.
As of now, my searches have brought me to these products:
1. Magewell USB Capture HDMI Gen 2 - http://www.magewell.com/products/usb-capture-hdmi-gen-2
2. StarTech USB 3.0 Video Capture Device - https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/usb-3-0-video-capture-device-hdmi-dvi-vga~USB3HDCAP
3. Black Magic Web Presenter - https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/blackmagicwebpresenter
Since I am working with a low budget I almost have to use option #1 or #2.
The camera's clean HDMI outputs at 1080i/60p (I believe), and I'm not entirely sure about the audio (most will be fed into the camera from external mic, but I guess I could use a 3.5mm jack converter to plug into the laptops microphone slot? But I'm assuming the former is the better way to go)
My only concern is that StarTech seems to make you use their own software, whereas the Magewell is plug-n-play. But I have seen threads on here saying OBS works with the StarTech.
Thoughts? Concerns?
