Hello. There are times when after a certain amount of time recording I forget to hit the stop button and walk away from my PC for hours at a time not knowing that I'm still recording. Is there a way to have the icon in the taskbar flash during the recoring, or, maybe be able to set a timer so that if there's no activity for x hours, automatically shut down the app?

There is a globally recording/streaming timer which can start and stop one or both of them by your specification.
But you have to set a fixed duration. You can't say something like "for another half hour after last keyboad/mouse activity".
You can reach it via Tools->Output Timer.

No flashing taskbar icon, but the system tray icon has an recording indicator.
If you'd set that to be always visible...
