Show Location of Pointer with CTRL key

Hello,

I used OBS 1-2 years ago several times and I always had the windows setting to "show location of pointer when I press the CTRL key" option on. I used this regularly in videos I made with OBS with no issues. I tried again today and now OBS no longer captures or shows the circle around the pointer when I press the control key. Its like the CTRL key does nothing when OBS is open. If I close OBS and press CTRL the windows feature works no problems but if OBS is open it does not work.

Does anyone know is there a setting in OBS that is preventing this from working? I have read other threads and I know I can use a third party software to show "clicks" or a highlight around the pointer all the time but I really only want to do it some of the time on demand.

Thanks,
Justin

Yes I saw those other threads I was just trying to avoid a third party application like those threads suggest especially when I know the way I am referencing used to work.

I checked my log and I am on version 30.0.0 (log file attached). Unfortunately I uninstalled and reinstalled the application and no longer have the log files from 1-2 years ago when I know it was working

I cannot reproduce this in W10. Maybe you have some sophisticated driver for your keyboard/mouse/video that prevents normal reading of key-presses by the OS itself or OS have some update that automatically disables feature for some applications. I have no other ideas.

Can any other owners of W11 confirm the issue?

I never considered it was an issue present in Windows 11. Now that you mention it I think the videos I created where it did work was in Windows 10 before I upgraded.

Thanks for checking and brining that up.

On OBS 30 and Windows 11, the circle you get if you enable the "show location of pointer" in Windows is visible in OBS for display capture sources but not visible for window capture sources for me.

By the way Microsoft Powertoys has a similar mouse locating feature. It darkens the whole desktop and creates a highlighted area around the pointer on double-pressing CTRL. It exhibits exactly the same behavior as the integrated feature: visible in display capture but not for window capture.

For window capture, not even the darkening of the desktop is visible in OBS, so I guess the graphical stuff is something drawn on the desktop independently from any windows as invisible overlay that can only be captured with display capture.

W10 has similar behavior.

I read the "If I close OBS and press CTRL the windows feature works no problems but if OBS is open it does not work..." literally.
and now I see other part of the question too: "OBS no longer captures or shows the circle around the pointer when I press the control key...", so now I think user want to record Window Capture cursor with mouse locator enabled, that itself is unsupported in OBS.
